Life as Milestones
Hour GlassHave you ever felt that time was slipping through your fingers like grains of sand in an hourglass?

Life is a continuum of events that are milestones of physical and emotional growth. We’re born. We learn to walk and talk. We go to school. We reach puberty. We begin to date. We get a job. We lose a job. We get another job. Some of us marry. Some of us have children. We retire. We die. But for those who understand God’s will for their scheduled days, there’s much more to the story.

Am I Part of a Plan?
The Psalmist exclaims: “You … SCHEDULED each day of my life before I began to breathe. EVERY DAY WAS RECORDED IN YOUR BOOK!”1. This is a fascinating thought: God has ORDAINED and/or SCHEDULED the DAYS OF OUR LIVES. That is to say, God makes us how He wants us to be; then He plans FOR US a life here on planet earth that will best fulfill all that He put into us! In Ephesians chapter two and verse ten we find this parallel: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we would walk in them.” (NAS).

The Great God put you here on this earth for a marvelous, eternal purpose. Can you imagine it? Life, the most precious, wonderful, exhilarating, thrilling possession of each human—life, with its marvelous opportunities, its challenges and adventures, its sorrows and joys, its successes and its failures—and above all, ITS AWESOME POTENTIAL FOR SERVICE—life lived worthlessly by many in ignorance of God’s plan for it!

Where Do I Find Success?
One writer said, “Service is the only sound and satisfactory answer to the problem of human existence.”

If you could tap into God’s Word at this eleventh hour,2 gaining a better understanding of His will for your SCHEDULED DAYS, would you want to? If you could draw on His wisdom and knowledge to make better decisions in your daily life, would you?

The men who have made the greatest success of life are those whose efforts have been centered, not in selfish interests, but in blessing others. Whatever your aim in life may be, if you want success, then let your efforts be directed for the good of humanity rather than for the good of self.
